Resavoir
"Inside Minds"
Digital Single Out Now
Resavoir, the Chicago-based project led by producer/composer Will Miller, has a new single out today! "Inside Minds" is the first original music released by Resavoir since the 2019 debut Resavoir.
A breezy, Balearic bedroom beat featuring the bossa-inflected nylon-string guitar playing of Matt Gold (a/k/f his work with Makaya McCraven), “Inside Minds” also features Miller on piano and synths, Lane Beckstrom on double bass, Eddie Burns on drum programming, Peter Manheim on drums/percussion, and Akenya Seymour on background vocals. The track’s lush, melodic atmospherics nod to the signature lo-fi instrumental jazz palette that Miller established four years ago on Resavoir’s debut album; while its more polished and refined composition marks a new direction for the project. It’s an inspiring and refreshing new sound foreshadowing a new album by Resavoir, the details for which we can't share yet, but will be ready to be announced this fall.
Miller says: “Inside Minds is composed of 3 elements that explore the inner workings of our everyday thoughts and actions. The first being the main loop (the drums and chords) which symbolizes our everyday routines and thoughts that cycle in our minds. The second element is the melody of the song, ever fleeting, representing external interactions and movements that possess the power to transform our internal states of being. The final element is the outro, representing the release and reprieve we allow ourselves when we step outside, whether that be outside our homes, comfort zones, or our minds.”
<<< about Resavoir >>>
Resavoir is the work of Chicago-born and based musician, composer and producer Will Miller.
Miller is a jazz trumpeter and composer by training – first via Chicago Public Schools, then Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio. As an instrumentalist he’s played on recordings by Chance The Rapper, Lil Wayne, and Mac Miller. For seven years he was a core member of the indie band Whitney. Since 2016 he has been moving more and more in the direction of all around “producer” – with a resume that has grown to include work with Knox Fortune, Eryn Allen Kane, and SZA (for her recently-released album SOS, which spent 10 weeks at the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart).
In 2019 Miller released Resavoir’s debut album Resavoir to high praise, including a glowing review in Pitchfork, who called it “a complex, soulful album that celebrates interconnectedness.” It was called “lush and lovely” by VICE, and landed on year-end lists by Noisey, NPR Music, Bandcamp, and BBC 6 Music's Gilles Peterson. Later that year, Miller and his live version of Resavoir did a London debut as part of the first Boiler Room Festival. While they were in London, they did a recording session at Total Refreshment Studios. One of those recordings was a cover of the Charles Tolliver song “Plight,” and the track was released by Blue Note Records as part of the compilation Transmissions from Total Refreshment Centre.
Miller spent much of the pandemic years in his studio, and much of 2022 on tour with Whitney. In the second half of 2023, he revamps Resavoir. Details forthcoming for their second album on International Anthem.
