International Anthem @ Public Records (Volume 4)
International Anthem @ PUBLIC RECORDS
VOLUME 4 (121022)
On December 10th, 2022, Carlos Niño and Photay assembled a beautiful cast of musicians at Brooklyn's Public Records to perform in celebration of their recently-released International Anthem LP An Offering (and the subsequent mixtape of remixes and bonus material, More Offerings). Over two sets of sprawling, luminous music – the first featuring Niño w/ keyboardist Surya Botofasina and percussionist, hand drummer Adam Rudolph, the second featuring those three plus Photay, Will Logan and Laraaji) – a sold-out crowd was taken on a immersive improvisational journey, aurally transporting the room to outer/inner space, before grounding at the end with group stretches led by the ever-charismatic master of ceremonies Niño.
Today we are happy to share a live EP – International Anthem @ Public Records (Volume 4) 121022 – including three recordings from set one with Carlos Niño, Surya Botofasina, Adam Rudolph, plus one recording from the second set led by Photay with Carlos Niño – featuring artwork created for the event by Mark Rice of Goatmother Industrial. Available exclusively for streaming in Hi-Res on Qobuz.

Carlos Niño says:
"Originally the idea was to reprise the Quintet
that played the year before at Commend (111621)
as Carlos Niño & Friends, but this time as
Photay with Carlos Niño featuring Laraaji,
Surya Botofasina, and Will Logan (121022).
Evan, (Photay,) and I were invited to play
the International Anthem residency at Public Records
in Brooklyn and this was what we thought would be
the most fun. We were promoting our International
Anthem releases An Offering and More Offerings.
I wanted to add my Mentor Adam Rudolph to
the night and I enquired about us playing
a Trio set with Surya before the Quintet played.
Adam was available, came and set up with us,
and agreed to play both the Trio set and the Quintet set,
which was now a Sextet set. We crammed onto
the (smallish but) fair sized riser stage at Public Records
using every inch of space, and even set up some pieces
on top of the Devon Ojas Speaker Cabinets,
and on the floor next to the stage. We all had
many Instruments with us, Organic Acoustics
and Amplified Electronics. It was an incredible
array of unique energies . . . The first 3 pieces
of this release are about 90% of the Trio set.
The 4th piece is the very end of the Sextet set.
Was a wonderful night! We had a blast on all levels!
Super stoked for this Spontaneous Collective Expression /
Composition to be shared hear, now . . .
Thank You for reading this and for
checking out these Recordings!"

ADAM RUDOLPH'S HU VIBRATIONAL
Live @ Public Records August 12th
Adam Rudolph – who appears on today's Qobuz-exclusive release of International Anthem @ Public Records (Volume 4) 121022 – is known for work with Don Cherry, Pharaoh Sanders, Jon Hassel and other great “jazz” artists, as well as his 25 year partnership with the legendary Yusef Lateef. He currently also leads his Moving Pictures Octet and the 36 piece Go: Organic Orchestra. With Hu Vibrational Rudolph turns his creative energies to creating a deep groove vision of future dance music. As Tommy Chong so aptly puts it, “When you hit a groove, it’s not you; it’s the spirit world.”
With his project Hu Vibrational, Rudolph mixes deep percussive African rhythms and global sounds with elements of hip-hop and electronica. Hu Vibrational's August 12th concert at Public Records in Brooklyn will feature 5 world percussionists along with great Damon Banks hitting the deep pockets on bass plus keyboard whiz Alexis Marcelo creating ethereal electronic palettes.
