For the 5th edition of our quarterly music series at Public Records in Brooklyn, on April 15th, 2023, the legend Jeff Parker did a Brooklyn debut of the solo guitar set he’d spent the previous two years touring across the globe. It was all part of the campaign for his International Anthem & Nonesuch co-released album Forfolks – a broadly successful solo guitar collection that was recognized as one of the Top 50 Albums of 2022 by Pitchfork just a few months before this performance.
Parker stepped to the stage area (after a powerful opening set by Caroline Davis’s Alula) and proceeded to enrapture the audience inside the dense harmonic planes of his stereo amplified, textural frozen guitar soundscapes. The immersive sound created by Parker’s single string instrument (+ pedals) alone was quite impressive, and was rarely without a gorgeously lyrical, endlessly hummable melody.
International Anthem @ Public Records (Volume 5) features two recordings from this performance – the Parker original “Four Folks” and his solo guitar arrangement of the Chad Taylor composition “Mainz” – featuring artwork created for the event by Mark Rice of Goatmother Industrial. It's available now, exclusively for streaming in Hi-Res on Qobuz.

We share these recordings as we're just ahead of the next edition of our quarterly residency at Public Records, on Sunday, October 29th. Fresh off a month of shows across Europe, Ben LaMar Gay brings his tour tight quartet to Brooklyn for his first proper headlining show in the Big Apple. It's a long awaited performance at Public Records for BLG, as he was intended to inaugurate our quarterly series back in January 2022 (before Omicron shut us down), just after the critical success of his Fall 2021 album Open Arms to Open Us.
And we couldn't be more excited for the opening set... An artist who we've been fans of for years, which affinity has only grown as we've got to know him more as a human... Tomin is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist, bioinformatician, and poet from Brooklyn. His primary instruments are the flute, trumpet and alto clarinet, and he participates in the creative music scene as a performer, improvisor, composer and fan. Outside of music, he works in computational genetics, with a focus on oncology. On this occasion, Tomin'em will feature Tcheser Holmes on drums, Teiana Davis on Keyboards, Clérida Eltimé and Lester St. Louis on Cellos, Luke Stewart on Bass, Linton Smith on Trumpet and Tambourine, and Tomin himself on assorted winds, keys and percussion.

As with all six editions of IA@PR so far, our mellow fellow Mark Rice made some banging posters for this upcoming show, which will be available on the merch table at Public Records, along with tee shirts, totes, and a handful of titles from our catalog (aka whatever we can manage to carry with us from Chicago).

Also relevant to today's communications... We're blessed to play a small presentational part in this amazing festival in Brooklyn – Durations – brought together by Pioneer Works & Public Records.
On November 12th at Public Records, Photay convenes a brand new ensemble featuring Fly or Die cellist Lester St. Louis & violinist Zosha Warpeha, and Anteloper drummer Jason Nazary performs music from his recent collaboration with Saint Abdullah.
