Daniel Villarreal-Carrillo (aka brownbabyjesus) is truly a one of a king human being. You might catch him behind the decks spinning all 7” 45s until 2am on a Tuesday night in Chicago, then see IG stories of hi behind the drum kit in Austin, TX the next night. And that’s not even mentioning his trips to the east coast to visit his fiancé, or spending time with his daughters on the west cost. Needless to say, he’s fully committed to music, friends, & family to keep himself crazy busy. But with all of the frequent flier miles aside, the Panama native still calls Chicago home.
The beautiful city of Chicago is currently experiencing another great fire, but this time in the form of fire ass music. Latitude & longitude to the Bridgeport neighborhood of the city, and you'll find the foundation remnants of the band, Dos Santos. Featuring artists Alex Chavez on vocals, Jaime Garza on electric bass, Nate Karagianis on guitar, Peter Vale on congas & bongos, and Daniel on drums, the genre defying Dos Santos is a quintet made up of incredible human beings. Their latest LP titled City Of Mirrors on Chicago based record label International Anthem was a standout release of 2021. A relevant message through both the music and album artwork, crossing over genres like "we have/and continue to cross borders." "Even with the grit to push boundaries with their music, Dos Santos is still very versatile - they'll rock you from the main stage of any summer festival around the city.
Like many others in the Chicagoland area, I'm fortunate to refer to Dos Santos' drummer Daniel as a good friend... he's my "4977 Brother." He also happens to live in the same neighborhood as 606 Records (Pilsen), so it's never a surprise to catch him in
the shop digging through our heavy supply of 45s. Even though he, along with many other collectors, share that addiction for vinyl, at the end of the day he's a drummer at heart. The Panamá drummer. Chicago's drummer.
